The year was 1985 and pageant legend Jerry Bird created a pageantry system for male entertainers around the United States. Mr Bird worked diligently to ensure male entertainment was the focus in the LGBTQA+ community. The system was the beginning and most sought out title in the Nation. The system consisted of multiple categories including Q & A, swim wear, and talent. Jerry continued multiple years with successful pageant competitions with up to 40+ men showing up to capture the coveted title of Mr Gay USA.
During the years Jerry Bird teamed up with Jeff Reeves and Buddy Brendle as Mr Gay USA flourished. Jerry now not only owned a male division but also a female and female at large. Jerry’s main focus had shifted from male pageantry to drag and showed the nation was ready for all. So during this time Jeff Reeves and Buddy Brendle purchased the male division from Jerry Bird. Jeff continued with the name of Mr Gay USA and the history from 1985. Jerry then chose to change the name of the system from gay USA to gay USofA and convert the history of Miss Gay USA/at Large to USofA.
Jeff and Buddy chose to have an emeritus face with the new ownership of the system. Jeff Reeves, the new owner and former 1st alternate to Mr All American, became the first representative for the new beginning with the system still flourishing and sought out. The next 7 years into 2000, Jeff and Buddly added multiple individuals onto the board of directors to assist with production and promotion. Glenn Moore, Sam Hare, Buddy Goldstein, and Mark Madison stepped on to assist with multiple successes ahead.
Buddy, after over 20 years dedicated to the system, decided to retire and run a self-employed business. During this time Sam Hare also stepped away to work on some side projects he had in place. Jeff, Glenn, Mark, and Buddy G continued to run the system into 2006. During this time Mr Gay USA FMI was created in 1995, Mr Gay USA Classique in 2004, Mr Gay USA at Large in 2009, Mr Gay USA Bear in 2002, and the development of Miss Gay USA Classique in 2004.
The success of Gay USA was over the moon and Jeff Reeves trademarked the system as USA Unlimited LLC in 1994 due to potential confusion with the Miss USA system then owned by former President of the United States, Donald Trump. Mr Reeves now showed the divisions can be successful and chose to bring onboard Miss Gay USA in 2007 and Mr Gay USA Cub in 2007. During this time the GAY USA was number one in the nation beating out USofA and America as the most sought out title. Jeff created one time national titles honoring Victor/Victoria as Mr Gay USA FMI Classique, Dylan Gauge Mr Gay USA FMI Junior, and Xavier Bottoms Mr Gay USA FMI at Large all in 2007.
The board of directors shifted in 2008 when Mark Madison and Buddy Goldstein retired from ownership and Mark from competition. The system remained in the hands of Both Jeff Reeves and Glenn Moore as President/Vice President for years after. The in 2010 Jeff Reeves decided to insert the name Unlimited in the already successful Gay USA system. And renamed Mr/Miss Gay Unlimited for a year and changed to Mr/Miss Unlimited from 2011 forward. During this time frame Arabia Knight-Addams was on the board until her passing in 2011. The system still being on top rebranded the board of directors with Barabara Maberry, Chip Matthews, Country Casinova, Stone Parque, and Jr Stallings.
The system created new divisions: Miss Unlimited Lipstick, Mr/Miss Unlimited Newcomer, Miss Unlimited at Large, and Mr/Miss Unlimited Leather and Unlimited Leatherboy. In 2012 Chip, Stone and Country stepped away from the board embarking on competition life again. While Taylor Knight-Addams, Sam Hare, and Cid Luis stepped onto the board and later joined by Ashley Adams. This was no slowing down for Unlimited as they continue to hold stellar competitions at Club Cabaret in Hickory NC.
In 2014 the system divided into two entities JR Unlimited Contest and USA Unlimited. Then in 2017 Jeff temporarily closed the system after combining them back together and stepped away due to brain surgery. He continued to run the bar after and left the system on the back burner until fully recovered. In 2019 he reinstated all the previous winners and recognized them from their reigns 2017-2019 and some 2017-2020. During this brief time the system developed a national pup division briefly and crowned Orion AlphaPup & Thumper OmegaPup and closed the division immediately. Jeff then went on and created a new board while he rebranded the USA Unlimited system by adding the USA to title. Jeff now added Cierra Nichole, Kyra Sedique, Chip Matthews, and Connie Conover to the board of directors and rebranded naming Nancy Newton & Chip Matthews as the new Miss/Mr USA Unlimited for 2020 rebranding.
Then 2022 Jeff Reeves sold half the company to Levi & Buck Davidson which made the system owned for the first time by someone else since 2002. During this time Chip Matthews & Connie Conover stepped off board due to new job positions and retirement. Tanner Shriver and Tyler Markstone stepped into those positions on the board of directors. The systems rebranding has been a complete success for the new owners and the systems legacy.
